My Vegan Radar
Blighty (Finsbury Park)
Updated: Oct 15, 2019
Blighty, the quirky Brit themed cafe in Finsbury Park was chosen as a visit for a sunny afternoon breakfast. Blighty looks small from the outside, with just a few chairs visible, the coffee bar and a giant Mr Bean cut out, but up the stairs they have lots of extra tables, comfy seating, as well as a sizeable garden for sunny times.

Blighty is fun to look around, with memorabilia and brit decor everywhere; posters, knick knaks, books, stuffed toys, flags, and paintings. Compared to other cafes in the area, it offers up something very different with it's commitment to the quirky, coupled with it's relaxed, friendly and local vibe. It oozes community involvement too with local posters and flyers dotted about.

They have 2 vegan options on the menu. In Tottenham, they have a sister cafe, 'Blighty India', which offers up Indian cuisine, and all mains there are vegan.
Vegan Options:
THE FULL INDIAN BREAKFAST
Curried, scrambled tofu, asparagus, mushrooms, avocado, lemon, Blighty 7 spice baked beans, sourdough, and olive oil
LAHORE TOAST
Avocado, pomegranate, lemon, on sourdough toast, with oil and mixed seeds

I really appreciated the thoughtful arrangement of the full Indian breakfast. Serious effort has been made to make sure that vegans have an interesting and different option. The tofu was perfectly spiced and so tasty, the asparagus was crunchy and fresh, and the other veg perfectly cooked. The guacamole had other herbs and spices run through it, and tasted incredible. Plus, the sourdough toast was fresh and spongy, and the homemade beans so delicious!
I really don't like too much salt on my food and they garnish with a lot of salt, so if you don't appreciate this let them know when ordering, otherwise you will struggle. Also, they use rock salt as a sort of garnish (visible in the picture) so it's a really strong flavour when you get a mouthful of it.

The garden is a lovely place to be, calm and quiet, away from the buzz of black stock road. Check out the Anderson shelter in the corner!
I recommend you take a trip to the toilets even if it's just to see their nostalgic wallpaper. It's so much fun to look at! Here is a sneaky sample:

Staff are friendly relaxed and look like they are both friends and having fun, which was lovely, plus the service is quick and efficient, I loved this cafe!
