La Valle - King's Cross

La Valle are an omni casual restaurant specialising in buffet style hot food and salad. They're really close to King's Cross station so attract lots of people for a quick and healthy lunch spot. The seating is casual and the turnover is quick.

They always have a couple of hot vegan options but these change so I cannot list the menu. They also have salad, which was all vegan on the day that we went, staff were really happy to point out vegan options for us.

I love Moussaka and this one was tasty, with perfectly soft aubergine and delicious tomato ragu. It didn't stand out as particularly unusual or better than other vegan moussaka that I've had in the past but it was good. The 'butter beans' which I was less enticed by were actually delicious and my favourite of the pair. They were cooked in a Thai curry sauce which was mildly spicy and so warming.

The salads and bruschetta were both vegan. The salads were all fresh and healthy but I wasn't blown away by any of them, it was nice to have access to variety, and I did enjoy the buffet aspect, but some of the salads were a bit odd. For example, the green bean salad had whole strands of lemon rind in it which were a bit overpowering. The bruschetta was garlicky, tangy and delicious and I had loads of them, plus the sweet potato salad which was my favourite, I also stacked up on, it was soft, simple and unfussy.

We paid £7.50 for these plates which was good value as we went up a few times and for incredibly fresh food. I would have preferred there to be more variety of salads, and for slightly more interesting ingredients being added to them, the hot food was delicious in taste, but the salad was a little ordinary.

We didn't really have much interaction with staff after asking them about the vegan options but they seemed generally pretty happy and helpful when needed. They were popular and busy but kept the buffet topped up well, so were definitely efficient. The venue was also a little stark and lacked atmosphere, but I feel that this is acceptable in such a casual place aimed at fast service.
