Rudys DVD - Camden Town

I've had my eye on Rudy's Dirty Vegan Diner for ages. Now they've freshly moved in to their bigger location and there's a bit of a buzz around them, I had even more motivation to go.

Rudy's Dirty Vegan Diner is located in the Stables Market area in Camden, so the atmosphere surrounding it is fun, there is plenty of surrounding eating space (although unless you sit in the seats hugging the venue you'll be given it as a take-away and be given take-away cups too, which is fair enough).

It was sweltering hot outside and although the outside seating looked great, we stayed inside for some relief from the heat.

The inside had a unique feel about it, it felt like a cabin with it's tall wooden walls and floor. They've gone for minimalist decor with big signs across the wall with the menu across them and a Muriel on the opposite wall which I loved.

Despite the sweltering heat, and what must have been completely unbearable working conditions, the staff that served us at the counter were friendly and helpful.

They have a buzzer system that they hand to you once you've paid. Staff were constantly moving through the place to clean, and the overall vibe of both the customers and the staff made it feel super relaxed, calm and non-judgemental, people were obviously just really happy to be there and really enjoying the food.

It was cash only for 2 consecutive days, which although is a little annoying but there is a cashpoint close by, I'm assuming it is a teething issue to do with the venue change.

Menu:

Dirty Burger - grilled soya beef patty, baycon, cheese, grilled onions, mayo, ketchup, pickles, and lettuce

Dirty Dog - smoked seitan hot dog, grilled onions, ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, crispy onions, and chives

Buffalo Burger - crispy seitan chicken, cheeze, garlic mayo, spicy buffalo sauce, crispy onions, chives and lettuce

Rudy's Reuben - seitan pastrami, cheeze, grilled onions, Russian dressing, cashew nut cream cheese, pickles, crispy onions, chives and sauerkraut

Saboteur Burger - crispy seitan chicken, baycon, cheeze, grilled onions, BBQ sauce, slaw, pickles, and lettuce

Caesar Salad - crispy seitan chicken, baycon bits, cashew nut parmesan, crispy onions, chives, lettuce, and a cashew nut dressing

We started off with some milkshakes, made from vegan ice cream, they were sweet, creamy, a decent size and decorated so beautifully! We loved them!

Strawberry Milkshake and Vanilla Milkshake

The food arrived super quickly, we only waited for about 5 minutes in total before our buzzers went off! We got a dirty burger each and dirty fries. The dirty fries were a huge meal in themselves which I knew going in but was desperate to try!

Dirty Burger

As you can tell from the photo of the burger, it was absolutely packed with sauces and other deliciousness - gherkins, onion, baycon, cheeze, and lettuce. I think this is about the first time I've ever not put additional ketchup onto a burger, it was so saucy already that there was absolutely no need.

The omni friend that I took here for lunch told me that the dirty burger was the best burger he'd ever had in my life with such sincerity that I'm sure he meant it, and I also have to say that it was incredible. I didn't manage the whole thing, mostly because I was also trying to eat the dirty fries. Basically, portion sizes are good and you won't go hungry!

Dirty Fries

After all the cooing that I've done professing my love for the burger they gave me, I'm going to admit that the dirty fries were a bit of a disappointment, they were absolutely loaded, and the way they were presented was super creative, but the chilli and the coleslaw were a little bland, as was the cashew cheese. Whilst I will be telling everyone very enthusiastically to go here, I wouldn't really recommend this dish.
